AhlulBayt News Agency: Spanish media reported on Tuesday that Madrid has canceled arms contracts worth over €250 million with Israel.
The annulled contracts had been planned for the manufacturing of 168 cannons and 1,680 anti-tank missiles.
Spain has outlined a strategy to reduce its technical reliance on Israel’s military industry and end its dependence on Israeli defense technologies.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez had previously urged EU countries to suspend partnership treaties with Israel and ban arms exports to the regime.
European Council President Antonio Costa, in a phone call with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday, stated that the situation in Gaza remains catastrophic due to the ongoing war.
Costa urged Israel to lift its complete ban on humanitarian aid for Palestinians and halt its military operations.
However, Costa did not go beyond diplomatic appeals, stopping short of condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Following the United States, many European governments remain major supporters and arms suppliers to Israel in its military campaign against Palestinians.
Germany alone provides 30% of Israel’s arms and ammunition, contributing to the ongoing war in Gaza.
